Maya Angelou
This year, we dedicate Make a Difference Day to the memory of George Forbes, a treasured member of our Board and a lifelong champion of community service.
Born in Staten Island, New York, in 1933, George carried with him a spirit of curiosity, generosity, and resilience. His family moved to Los Angeles in the late 1930s, where he would go on to graduate from George Washington High School, earn his bachelor’s from Pepperdine University, and later his MBA from USC—schools he remained deeply connected to throughout his life.
George enjoyed a remarkable 30-year career at TRW in Redondo Beach, but his impact reached far beyond the workplace. A devoted volunteer, George shared his time and talents with numerous organizations over the years, including his dedicated service on the Board of Directors at the Volunteer Center of San Gabriel Valley.
He brought warmth, wisdom, and humility to everything he did—always ready to offer insight, lend a hand, or share a story from his adventures in the outdoors or his lifelong love of sports and the arts.
As we gather this year, we remember George not just for the decades he spent giving back, but for the grace and kindness he carried with him. His presence enriched our work, our boardroom, and our lives.
Join us this Make a Difference Day as we honor George’s memory by continuing the service he so deeply believed in—building a stronger, more compassionate community for all.
